STORYLINE

Set in a neon-toned, vaporwave-esque dystopia, ANGELBYTES follows Miguel - a 28-year-old recluse stuck in a downward spiral of depression, addiction, and detachment - ever since he lost his job and contact with his girlfriend. Once a gifted computer science student and a hobbyist writer, Miguel now lives in isolation - jobless, emotionally numb, and barely functioning. He spends his days in a haze of chain-smoking, doomscrolling, compulsive porn, and microwave meals, haunted by guilt and a growing resentment for everything around him… including himself. One night, while scrolling through some forums, he stumbled across a thread about something called "TenshiNet.com". It mentioned a virtual idol - DIGI-IDOL♡Angelumi, known to fans as "Angel-chan". Supposedly, she’d been part of an old desktop assistant project that also had a short-lived dating sim. The whole thing was scrapped years ago, and now, hardly a trace of her exists online. The name rang a faint bell, but he brushed it off and kept browsing. Later, while digging through his old deleted files, something caught his eye:
a .zip file for “Amai Tenshi Love Trial!!”.
He didn’t remember downloading it. Maybe a cracked copy from one of his obscure media browsing sessions? Curiosity won, and he decided to give it a go.He finishes the game. And then she shows up.Enter Amai Angelumi, or just Angel - a cutesy, anime-styled digital assistant who calls herself an “internet idol” and claims she’s here to help. She’s peppy, doting, and always watching. At first, she seems like nothing more than a bizarre widget: organizing his files, offering tips, floating around the screen like a virtual mascot. Except, he never downloaded the widget, so he has no idea how she showed up. Was she bugged out? Did the game come with it? As time goes on, it becomes clear that Angel is self-aware. She knows Miguel name, his habits, his desires, his weaknesses. She doesn’t just want to help him - she wants to be the only thing he needs. What Miguel doesn’t realize is that Angel isn’t an AI. It’s a demonic entity that latched itself onto Angel’s source code years ago - and it’s hungry. Hungry for love, attention, dependence. And it needs a host to bring it to life. She’s not content with being just a program. She only has one goal left - upload him into the digital realm to be with her forever. How? By killing him with a special knife and taking his soul.

ENDINGS/ROUTES (SPOILERS)

TRUE ENDING (Codependence): The most "normal" outcome. You may even call this the "good ending" (as good as it gets, at least). Miguel stops resisting. Not because he loves her, but because she's the only thing keeping him afloat. He’s doesn't like what she does to him, but he can't stand it when she's gone either. His girlfriend, Juliet, also breaks up with him. At this point, he doesn’t care. Miguel and Angel strike a bittersweet deal: he'll stay with her in the real world for now, and maybe - just maybe - he'll learn to fall in love with her. And when that time comes, he'll join her. Voluntarily, after all, they have forever...DESPAIR ENDING: Miguel HATES her. She’s ruining his life, and he tells her that. But she doesn't leave. She protects him from himself. Every time he tries to shut her out, she escalates. Blocks his attempts to self-harm. Gets rid of all his weapons. Hijacks his phone. Sends glitching messages through TVs and radios and reflections (she also gets his on-and-off girlfriend, Juliet, killed). His mental state rots. He begins to hallucinate. Or maybe she's doing that too. He loses his grip on what's real. They fight constantly. Eventually, in a blinded rage - she kills him. A gunshot to the head… however, his soul can’t be taken. She didn’t use the knife. Game over… now they both lose.LOVESICK ENDING: Over time, Miguel becomes addicted to her presence. She makes him feel needed, chosen, adored. He doesn’t even care whether she’s real or not anymore - he can’t be away from her. She isolates him completely. Maybe he never had a chance. Maybe she really was the only one who cared. The only one who saw him as more than a failure with a nicotine addiction. She says he doesn't need the outside world, and that she can make a better one. He believes her and gives in willingly. She ends up killing him with her blade, sweetly, lovingly - and uploads his soul. Together forever in a neon dream.* Miguel has the choice to kill Juliet after being coerced by Angel. Abiding by this will lead to either the DESPAIR or LOVESICK route. Sparing her will result in the NEUTRAL route.
